Device Compatibility
Will your phone work with a SimpleConnect eSIM?
Three things decide it: your phone must have eSIM hardware, be carrier-unlocked, and be a regional version that supports eSIM. Search your model below, or read the checks in order.
The three checks
Everything comes down to these
A phone can tick one box and still fail the others. Work through all three before you order, and you will never be left without data at the airport.
Does it have eSIM hardware?
eSIM is built into the phone as a chip you cannot remove. Most flagship phones released from 2018 onward include it, but many budget models do not. The fastest way to confirm is the settings check in the section below, or dialing *#06# and looking for an EID number on screen.
Is it carrier-unlocked?
A phone bought on an installment plan from a network may be locked to that carrier and will refuse other profiles. Locked devices cannot use a travel eSIM until the carrier releases them. Check your lock status with your provider, or look for the wording shown in your phone settings.
Is it the right regional version?
The same model sold in different markets can behave differently. Some mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau versions of older iPhones omit eSIM entirely, and certain Android variants do the same. Our table flags the models where region decides the answer.

Type your phone name or pick a brand. The list updates as you type. Statuses reflect eSIM hardware support; unlocking and regional version are still your two checks to confirm.

Confirm support in under a minute
Tables can lag behind new releases. These three checks tell you the truth about the device in your hand.
iPhone
- Open Settings, then General, then About.
- Scroll to the Network section.
- If you see Digital SIM or eSIM with an option to add a plan, the hardware is there.
- On iOS 16 and later you can also tap Set Up eSIM to confirm availability.
Android
- Open Settings, then Network & internet.
- Tap Mobile network, then Add carrier or Download a SIM instead.
- If that option appears, your phone supports eSIM.
- Menu wording differs between Samsung, Google, and other skins, so search Settings for the word "eSIM".
Universal check
- Open your dialer and enter *#06#.
- A screen appears with your IMEI numbers.
- If an EID number is listed alongside them, the device has eSIM hardware.
- No EID line usually means no eSIM, whatever the marketing says.
Before you order
Four reasons a compatible phone still fails
Hardware support is only the start. These are the situations our support team sees most often after a purchase.
The phone is still carrier-locked
Devices bought on an installment plan often refuse foreign profiles until the original carrier unlocks them. Ask your provider before you travel, because unlocking can take several days.
It is a regional variant without eSIM
Older iPhone XS and XR models sold in mainland China, Hong Kong, or Macau, plus many Android units built for Asian markets, ship with the eSIM feature removed at factory level.
The software is out of date
Carrier settings and eSIM management improve with updates. Install the latest iOS or Android version before your trip so the profile installs cleanly.
Storage or line slots are full
Phones can hold several eSIM profiles but usually run only one or two at a time. Delete old, unused plans in settings if you reach the limit before installing yours.
Compatibility FAQ
Questions we answer every week
Can I keep my home SIM and use the eSIM together?
Yes. Dual-SIM mode lets your physical SIM keep handling calls and SMS while the eSIM carries your data abroad. Your home number stays active for bank codes and two-factor messages the whole trip.
Does using a travel eSIM create roaming charges on my home plan?
No, as long as data is set to use the eSIM line. The plan runs on a local partner network you already paid for in US dollars. Keep data roaming enabled for the eSIM and your home carrier is not involved in that traffic.
My phone is not in the table. Does that mean it will not work?
Not necessarily. The list covers the models customers ask about most. Run the EID check with *#06# and, if you want a second opinion, send us the exact model number through the contact form before you buy.
Can I use a SimpleConnect eSIM on a tablet or laptop?
Cellular iPads with eSIM work the same way phones do. Most laptops with built-in cellular modems use a different profile format, so contact us with the exact model before ordering for a computer.
What if I buy and then discover my phone is incompatible?
As long as the eSIM was never activated or used, you can request a refund within 30 days under our Refund Policy. That is why we recommend checking compatibility first, and we are glad to help before payment.
Do you support eSIM for smartwatches?
No. Watch connectivity plans are issued by individual carriers and cannot use a travel data profile. SimpleConnect plans are designed for phones and cellular tablets only.
Is my phone unlocked, and how do I find out?
On iPhone, check Settings then General then About for a carrier lock line. On Android, insert a different network's SIM and see whether it registers. Your original carrier can also confirm and unlock on request.
Will a future phone upgrade keep my eSIM working?
An eSIM profile is tied to the device it was installed on, so it does not transfer automatically. If you change phones mid-trip, contact us and we can reissue the profile for the new device while the plan is still unused.
Not sure about your exact model?
Send us your phone model, country of purchase, and current carrier through the contact form. A real person confirms compatibility before you spend anything, usually within one business day.
